Video Commander 2026.5.0 is now available. This release introduces a built-in DASH and HLS stream validator, drag-and-drop file loading, and a refreshed progress bar UI.
DASH/HLS Stream Validator
The Inspect view now includes a dedicated Validator tab for analyzing adaptive streaming manifests. Load any DASH MPD or HLS playlist URL and the validator will parse the full manifest tree, run conformance checks, and surface a structured findings report.
Findings are categorized by severity — Error, Warning, and Info — so you can quickly triage what needs attention. Selecting a finding highlights the relevant node in the manifest tree, and the tree itself is fully navigable down to individual segments and representations.

Segment Probing
Beyond manifest validation, the validator can probe individual segments directly. Selecting a segment, media playlist, or representation in the manifest tree fetches and analyzes that resource, reporting codec, container, duration, and any detected anomalies. Bulk probing across all addressable segments is also supported via a single action.
Drag-and-Drop File Loading
Files can now be dragged directly onto the app window to open them — no need to use the file picker. Drop a local file anywhere in the UI and it will be loaded as a new source tab, consistent with how files are opened from the menu or toolbar.
Improvements
- The progress bar has been refreshed with an updated visual style that better fits the current dark UI theme.
- The mp4box dependency has been upgraded to v0.7.0, bringing improved MP4 parsing accuracy and bug fixes for fragmented and progressive MP4 files.
